A Question of Rights: Defending Youth Rights

Forthcoming groundbreaking conference co-organised by JUST West Yorkshire and Liberty on 17th November 2009

The conference will explore 5 main themes that have been identified by young people:

* Criminalisation of young people
* Democracy and Young People
* Press and media portrayal of young people
* Safe Spaces
* Contemporary Youth Culture

This event is organised by young people from across West Yorkshire and it presents unique perspectives on how the disproportionate targeting of youth through policies like stop and search, anti-social behaviour orders, the demonisation in the press and media and increasing state surveillance is affecting them. The failure of both government and public bodies to respond to young people’s needs is also a key theme that the event will explore.

The conference is aimed at 16-25 year olds and is free.
