This practice sharing event was organised by members of the YHCDN to take a look backward and see what we had learnt from the work undertaken by community development practitioners under various engagement and empowerment programmes. At the same time we wanted to take a look forward into the brave new world of big society and a smaller state with the central governments massive cutbacks in state services which are affecting poorer communities far more than the richer communities. Hence the title of the conference ‘Community Development in a Changing World - how can CD practitioners support communities to survive in the current climate and transform threats into opportunities?

The national, regional and local aspects of  the changes that are coming  in was reflected in the  organisations supporting and sponsoring this event, funding came from the regional REP and Leeds PCT / CD Health network, and support came from by CDX.
